Una ricerca in Google Books funziona come una ricerca sul Web. Se esiste un libro i cui contenuti presentano una corrispondenza con il testo immesso, il relativo link sarà visualizzato nei risultati di ricerca.
Se il libro non è protetto da copyright, o l’editore ha concesso l’autorizzazione, potrai visualizzare un’anteprima, e in alcuni casi l’intero libro. Se è di dominio pubblico, sei libero di scaricarne una copia in formato PDF. Google Books ha creato delle pagine riassuntive per ciascun libro, in modo che tu possa trovare rapidamente qualsiasi tipo di informazione attinente: recensioni sul libro, riferimenti web, mappe e altro ancora.

Su questo sito si possono trovare testi molto specialistici e aggiornati, come possono esserlo le tesi di laurea. Il data base ne contiene oltre 30.000, in continuo aumento. Normalmente occorre pagare qualche euro per avere la versione integrale, ma prima dell’acquisto si ha accesso alla sinossi/abstract, all’indice e al profilo dell’autore.
